Description:
Respect and disrespect for human rights is a timeless theme in history. Students today are aware of the movements of various groups to increase the fair and equitable treatment of all mankind. To help further this goal, The Project 1619 is a journalism project supported by The NY Times and The NY Magazine and looks at the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans. In this lesson, students will gain better knowledge and understanding of the journey of these captured people and how this event was to be of great significance in American history.
