Join the Arizona Geographic Alliance for a no cost GeoDayTrip focused on Celebrating 100 Years as a National Park: Grand Canyon. This GeoDayTrip is divided into 2 sessions.  You may attend one or both.  Those attending both sessions will be served lunch. Registration will be limited to 35 people.

AM Session

The morning session (9:00-11:45 AM) includes information on the mapping and history of the Grand Canyon, and lesson plans and resources found on the AzGA website that focus on the Grand Canyon.   

PM Session 

The afternoon session (12:30-3:00) includes the interactive sandbox where you can make your own Grand Canyon, demonstrations of how to make a topographic map with a 3-D printer, crafts with maps, and MORE.

What to Expect if You Attend Both Sessions

  • Learn about ready to use lessons provided by AzGA related to the Grand Canyon and Colorado River
  • Presentations on the history of exploring, surveying, and mapping the greater Grand Canyon region
  • Introductions to finding, accessing, reading, and interpreting historic and contemporary topographic maps of the Grand Canyon region
  • Hands-on introductory GIS workshops, using free open source GIS software and data of the Grand Canyon region
  • Demonstration 3D printing Grand Canyon terrain models
  • Opportunities to explore the Grand Canyon using a virtual reality headset and Google Earth VR
  • Hands-on use of an augmented reality sandbox

Note: Participation is limited to 35 people Lunch will be provided for those attending both morning and afternoon sessions (advance notice must be provided). Recertification hours will be given.

Cost

Free but you must place a $20.00 deposit that will be returned if you attend.  Any ASU parking fees will be the responsibility of the attendee.  There is a light rail station nearby at Rural and University.  

Registration Deadline  In order to join us on this GeoDayTrip, we must receive your registration, including payment, no later than 11:00 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Cancellations must be made by October 17 or before to have your deposit returned if you do not attend.
