Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Social Studies (STEMSS) Institute 2014

May 3, June 17-20, June 24-26 and August 23, 2014

All K-8 teachers, and those who deal with K-12 education outreach, are invited to apply for this exciting opportunity INCLUDING AzGA Teacher Consultants teaching K-8.
The 9-day institute will include:
   Content information about STEM
   Field experiences to see academic and commercial settings for STEM
   Exemplary lessons that teach STEM and ELA and Math Common Core standards with ELL strategies
   Lots and lots of networking with other educators

Institute Format:

 The spring meeting (May 3) will be a Saturday orientation.  Topics will include: Science Notebooking, What is Geography? What is STEMSS? and information about ELLs and the Next Generation of Science Standards.

 The summer meetings (June 17-20 and June 24-26,) will be weekday sessions dedicated to content and experiential learning in the areas of Sustainability, GeoSpatial Technology, Numbers/Mathematics, Earth and Space Sciences, Forensics, and Inventiveness.  The days will be spent with a mixture of classroom lectures, application to classroom learning, and field trips to local resources (commercial enterprises, ASU programs, and museums).  There will also be lots of time for networking with your cohort. The fall meeting (Aug 23) will be for sharing your original STEMSS lesson with your cohort.

  Participants are required to attend all sessions.

 60 Recertification hours will be given to all participants.  One to three graduate (ASU) or undergraduate (MCC) credits can be arranged at participant’s expense.
